When you rewire your home, you’ll be replacing all of the cables that power your sockets, lights, and other electrical appliances. Your home’s electrical system is powered by cables usually buried in the walls. It’s recommended that these cables are replaced every 25 years or so. The cables provide the power to your socket outlets, your lights and all other electrical items in your home, such as your cooker and boiler.
Sub-standard and wrongly installed electrics can result in fires, and electric shocks. Older cables can deteriorate, cables that in the past were thought to be safe have since been proven to be unsafe and hazardous. We rewire your home to eliminate any potential problems and ensure everything is modern, safe and certificated
We know that this is a major project, and we make sure our work is done in every room of your home. We’re here to help you get the most out of your space.
When we arrive at your property, we spend time arranging and preparing the site for works to begin. It’s important that you carry out the necessary preparations stated in our terms beforehand.
We then work to route your new cables from your consumer unit, all around the property. Cables are concealed under floors, in the attic space and within the walls and fabric of the building.
The cost of rewiring your home can vary greatly, depending on the size, location and complexity of the work required.
At Electrofy ltd we use a quick and efficient pricing strategy which allows us to have your rewire costs to you within 24 hours of our onsite survey. Your rewire quotation is a fixed price and will not change unless you make changes to the specification.
Our price is mostly derived from the timescale of the rewire, the manpower used, and the difficulty of your house rewire.
The final quotation for your rewiring project is determined by many different factors including: The size and layout of your property; Condition of existing wiring; Accessibility issues within your property (such as stairs or sloping land); Type of switchgear required (for example fuse board or mains distribution board); Type of materials required (such as surface mounted cable trays or conduit).
The type of property, whether its a house or a flat.
Some homes are constructed with plasterboard which is easy to work with and some homes can be solid concrete which can be really really tough and add on a lot of time.
Your location and logistical challenges such as parking.
The period and age of the building and whether it has any decorative delicate features to negotiate such as decorative cornice, high skirting boards or finished floors.
The position of the property, if its a detached, semi-detached, terraced or a top, middle or bottom flat.
The specification of the electrical plan and the fixtures and extras you choose such as decorative sockets, additional external sockets or downlight fittings.
A house rewire is a complete overhaul of your home’s electrical system. It involves replacing all the wiring in your house, from top to bottom, as well as upgrading any outdated equipment and fixtures.
When you have a house rewire done, you can rest assured that your home will be up-to-date, safe and functioning at peak efficiency.
There is a guideline that your electrical wiring should be replaced every 20 – 30 years. Check our “Are Your Electrics Safe?” for signs it could be time for a change.
If you have any of the following problems, you may need to rewire:
– Fuses blow frequently
– Light bulbs flicker or die immediately after being switched on
– Appliances cannot be plugged in because they trip the circuit breaker or fuse box
– Frequent brownouts or blackouts and surges in voltage
When we rewire your home, we’ll be opening up walls and routing all the wires through them. We offer plastering services to put this all back together for you.
Yes, the power will usually be shut off for a few hours at a time. But if you’d like to keep the lights on during your rewire, we can do that for you! We’ll provide temporary power supplies so the work can continue uninterrupted.
It’s hard to say for sure. We’ve seen instances where a rewire has increased the value of a property, but we’ve also seen cases where it didn’t change anything at all. However, we can say with certainty that it will make your house more sellable—and that’s why many of our clients choose to rewire before selling.
