Electrical Testing

Electrical testing is done to ensure that an electrical installation meets regulatory standards and to avoid penalties. The testing helps to ensure the safety of the people using the installation, as well as the integrity of the electrical equipment.

What is electrical testing?

We deliver an extensive range of certified electrical testing for domestic and commercial customers across London, including single and three-phase installation. Approved as an NICEIC electrical contractor, we’ve worked on many inspections for new tenancy agreements and expired electrical conditions reports, which require renewal every five years. Other testing services include offices, chartered surveyors and in retail.

What is an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)?

An NICEIC Electrical Condition Report is a full electrical test and inspection conducted every five years. All London properties must abide by this testing process for insurance purposes and peace of mind.

The NICEIC Electrical Condition report looks for potential hazards in electrical installation, overloaded circuits, electrical work out of regulation, fire hazards and more. As well as fuses and circuit breakers, ensuring they trip under fault conditions.

The test’s outcome shares the condition of the electrics in the property, whether they’re satisfactory for continued use or require repair and maintenance.

How does electrical testing work?

Our electricians arrive at the property, presenting their NICEIC-approved ID cards and explaining the process of the testing procedure, notifying you when they will switch off the power to run the tests. After an explanation, the testing commences ranging in length depending on the property size and amount of components requiring testing.

After completion, the electrician will write a report and explain the assessment and its results. If testing has failed, we’ll suggest an estimated cost for repairs.

When should you carry out test in your property?

Regular electrical testing is required at certain intervals to ensure that the electrical installation is safe and compliant with regulations. These intervals include:

  • Every 10 years for an owner-occupied home
  • Every 5 years for a rented home
  • Every 3 years for a caravan
  • Every 1 year for a swimming pool

In addition to these regular intervals, a periodic inspection and electrical test certificate is also required in the following situations:

  • Before selling a property or buying a previously-occupied property.
  • When a property is being prepared for renting out.

What is PAT testing?

For private landlords in London and across England, it’s essential to undertake PAT testing for all your appliances within the property you rent out.

We’re experts in appliance testing, using PAT test machines for washing machines, vacuum cleaners, kettles and other appliances.
